Hey everybody!
The next part of the audio is finally done! Click here to listen/download!
This section features some exciting things — the acting debuts of Jill Astley (as Emi and Mai) and Eric Kim (as Zayd)!
…and also, the acting debut of…me. As a villain. Who actually talks kind of a lot. I thought I was going to avoid this, but we needed another woman, so what can you do?
It also features by far the creepiest scene in the audio to date. Seriously, this is a warning — you might not want to listen to the end of this chunk around young, impressionable, sensitive people, or when you’re trying to drift off to sleep…I’m going to lay this one largely on Dallas’s head, because that guy can freak out like no one I’ve ever heard before.
Well, I think this is officially my latest all-nighter update — it’s past 9am, and I’ve been working on this for about 22 hours straight, so I’m going to go get some sleep. I’m…very sorry if anyone was waiting for this on the actual update day.
P.S. If any of you were wondering why Emi and Mai have the same voice actor, here’s the official answer, straight from Lianne: “Psychosexual reasons!!! *maniacal laughter*”

Wow~! I think this is your best work so far Rebecca
I didn’t expect Zayd’s voice to be so deep lol. But it’s not a bad fit.
You voiced that villain really well!……almost too well…..suspiciously well…>_>
Aw, but you and Dallas did any amazing job conveying just how traumatic that scene was supposed to be. It was tough to listen to with a straight face
Heh, when I was editing Zayd’s lines, I actually had to turn the volume pretty far down so he’d match with the other actors. His voice was sticking out because it was just so resonant. I’ve known Eric for a long time, but I never realized how deep is voice is until I recorded it and spent a bunch of hours messing around with it!
Dallas is freaking amazing. I probably have an hour of footage of him just straight up freaking out in like 15 different ways. He’s actually already recorded the beginning of book 2, too — I know it’s not coming out for a really long time, but when it does, it’s gonna be ridiculously good!
Once again, my phone seems to really like your audio, Rebecca. The song that came on after this was “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked”. The meanings may not relate, but it sounded damn cool.
That last scene was just… well… perfect. Perfect on several levels, actually. One, I’d forgotten the specifics of this scene, and therefore forgotten about the doctor. Since I’m trying to plan a scene that includes a first time Pitch injection, and I don’t have the skill or knowledge required to do it up close and personal, it’s nice to know that someone’s always taking notes. Secondly, ALL THE FEELS. It was incredibly difficult not to start sobbing as Kiyoshi writhed on the operating table, and it was physically impossible not to shudder when the doctor gave that last line OH GOD…
The Jo/Mai part was also great. You did such a great job emphasizing Jo’s fear and Mai’s extreme confusion at everything. And Seiya… I’m having trouble not verbally thanking you for your generosity right now. “My mom’s gonna give you the third degree at breakfast.” OH GOD I feel bad laughing at that line after the events at the start of Book 2.
Keep it coming! Can’t wait for more Zayd and Emi, and soon, Shouri!! Finally!
I’m very glad my last line made you shudder! It makes me shudder, too — but probably not in the same way. Oh my god, editing my own voice is the worst.
But yeah, that last scene…hell, I surprised myself with that last scene! I spent a ton of nitpicky time getting the heart monitor beeps to speed up at the right pace and fitting Dallas’s sound effects into the right spots, and I know I was hoping to make something intense and uncomfortable but even I didn’t expect it to be that hard to listen to at the end. During my last listen-through, I just kind of gritted my teeth and let that part play through, I was barely able to check if the levels were ok. I always get too emotionally involved in my projects, though
Heh, I think everybody wants more Shouri, including the actor who plays Shouri, who kept being promised that her intro was coming while we pushed it off longer and longer.
Oh man, now I have to see if I can stand listening to myself…I really want to hear Zayd so I’m going to try. And I want to hear more TD audio awesomesness. I’ll just have to listen in private so no one sees me writhe in embarrassment during Emi’s lines.
NOW YOU KNOW MY PAIN! GYAHAHAHAHA!
Hiya Jill! You did fine! With such an amazing director and editor as Rebecca, you can rest assured that even your worst lines are made to sound awesome. Not that any of your line were bad, because I enjoyed listening to every Audio thus far, including this one. So don’t worry! Any judgement you pass will surely be your own exaggerated self assessment as is the case for us all. Good job on your first foreground performance Jill. Looking forward to hearing you squirm more as Emi.
…aw, thanks Doreibo. You really know how to inflate a girl’s ego
