Rating, schedule, background

This series is recommended for readers aged 16+ due to violence, crude language, sexual situations, and lots and lots and LOTS of drug use.

The story is currently updated monthly. If you’re new to Tokyo Demons, the story starts here.

Tokyo Demons is an illustrated, English-language prose serial in the tradition of the Japanese light novel. The story follows two supernatural teenagers, Ayase and Jo, as they begin high school in Tokyo in 2002 and are unexpectedly pulled into an underground gang war. Two sequel series, Tokyo Ghosts and Tokyo Angels, take place a number of years later.

Tokyo Demons is intended to be a living novel, open to feedback, changes, and various multimedia incarnations. Tokyo Demons: Book 1 is eight chapters long, serialized between May 2011 and April 2012. A revised, updated version of the entire book has been released digitally and in printTokyo Demons: Book 2 started in June of 2012. The entirety of the Tokyo Demons story will be contained in three novels. Comments and criticism are welcome on each chapter and will be considered during subsequent revisions.

Audio

Tokyo Demons is also serialized as a fully voiced audio book by Rebecca Scoble. The audio version of the story lags behind the prose by several months. Please see the Audio page for more information.

Games

Both a card game (Tokyo Demons: Your Number’s Up) and video game (Tokyo Demons: Get It Together) are currently in production, thanks to the April 2012 Kickstarter and more general sponsorship. For more details, please see our Games page.

Bonus

Additional incarnations and supplementary materials will be added during the story serialization. These include pages for the Characters, a growing Relationship ChartExtras (including special art), and Short Stories (sometimes exclusive to “paid” version of the story). We also have an excellent Fandom that produces its own work.

Store

Tokyo Demons is free to read and listen to, thanks to the continuing sponsorship of our readers. We successfully ran our first Kickstarter in the spring of 2012, and we’re hosting a growing selection of books, downloadable content, and merchandise in our Store.
